July 2009 Newsletter
Amherst will be the time for midseason prizes for ticket
sales and butt buster awards. Be sure to check the posted sheets to see if
your number is listed for the volunteer time you have put in for butt buster.
Amherst will
also be the time to sign up if you are interested in competing in the Mauston
Pumpkin Bash Rodeo on Oct. 24. We will be providing a 4 hour show for the
bash and we will have 10 competitors in each event. You will need to sign up
to show your interest. Different ideas were brought up as prizes for
participants. One idea was matching shirts for all who compete. We would like the students to come up with their own ideas for
prizes also as this rodeo would not count toward year end awards. The
Mauston Pumpkin Bash Rodeo a great way to promote Little Britches Rodeo and
the great sport that rodeo is.
Holmen would like Shawano’s
date for next year. Since Shawano did not hold a rodeo this year, it was
agreed to award that date to Holmen.
Gary will be renting some of the bulls for a rodeo the
end of July. Gary had brought some junior
bulls to Highland
to buck out. LBW paid $25 per out for the bulls. Some discussion was had
about selling some of the bulls and renting them instead of feeding them
throughout the year. The rental cost per bull would be more than the $25 but
it needs to be looked into.
Too many people are on the
backs of the bucking chutes. Each contestant will be allowed two people on
the chute with them. One to pull the rope and the other as a spotter. The
less people on the chute should help some of the young bulls that get nervous
in the chute behave better. The younger bulls will also get better in the
chutes with more outs. Also, the rough stock riders need to get moving sooner
with not so much time from one ride until the next one leaves the chute. The
crowd gets bored waiting so long between buck outs.
Contestants are reminded
that dress code is required from the student meeting until the end of the
rodeo which includes the awards on Sunday afternoon. Also, backtags are to be
worn at all times. Horses being ridden on the rodeo grounds must have a
bridle on.
Contestants are to get
entries in on time. The count for the rough stock and the timed event cattle
has to be turned in so we know how many to bring. If entries are received
late, it is hard to get the right amount of stock to the rodeo. If this does
not get better getting entries in on time, a financial penalty may be
accessed. The high school penalty for late entries is $100.
We are in need of a couple
of laptops. If someone has a connection to get a good deal please let someone
on the board know.
The awards banquet for Nov.
14 still needs an organizer. Club 16 in Sparta
has been booked again. If someone would like to step up to the plate and take
this on please let one of the board members know. What we need to remember is
that we are all volunteers in this organization. No one gets paid. We do this
so our kids can go out and have fun. We all want it to continue so please do
your part in helping any way you can. We appreciate all the timers, arena
help, judges, announcers, and anyone else that has volunteered. Give
yourselves a pat on the back. Those of you that haven’t yet, what are you
waiting for? If you don’t know what to do or how to do it just ask, we’ll be
glad to get you started.
Next meeting Aug 2nd
at 9:30 a.m. at Prairie du Chien. Hope to see you there.
